23-07-2019

From June 17. to 23. 2019 WeMakeThe.City took place, an inspiring week in which Amsterdam and the metropolitan region discussed urgent urban issues and probable solutions. Thousands of city makers, policy makers, citizens, businesses, artists, organizations and scientists have met in countless conferences, meet-ups, hackathons, exhibitions or films to show how we together can build the city of the future.

Also Digital Life researcher Joey van der Bie was invited during this week to present his research project EyeBeacons - related to the theme: 'City In Motion': in which way Amsterdam can take a sporty step forward? The central question was how to encourage sports and movement. And what is exactly needed to get more locals 'on the move'? Also, for example, what role can technology play in doing so?

In addition to this technological component Joey van der Bie entered the stage in the RAI on Tuesday June 18. to tell the audience how EyeBeacons can support people with a visual impairment when navigating in the public space. The use of this kind of technological devices show an improvement in their mobility, independence and social participation.

In this way the Digital Life Centre also contributes to the movement of more and more people in Amsterdam and the metropolitan region!
